General Information

Thailand

The country’s capital Bangkok lives and breathes off the Chao Phraya River drawing both rural town folk and city dwellers to carry out their daily business which makes this city such a fascinating mix of local culture and Westernisation. This once traditional Thai village is alive both at day and at night. Glide down the river in a long tail boat to visit Wat Phra Kaew and the Grand Palace and immerse yourself in the Buddist way of life of peace and serenity then to contrast try hailing a ‘tuk tuk’ ride back to Chinatown and wonder through the narrow alleyways and eclectic markets. Graze your way through the streetside snacks of iced Thai coffee, satay, deep fried bananas or perhaps even a more ‘traditional’ local savoury! Once the sun sets the city wakes up so head to the Vertigo Bar, a rooftop bar at the Banyan Tree, for a cocktail followed by dinner at Sirocco located on the 63rd floor of State Tower – Bangkok’s highest restaurant.

Head north to moat surrounded city of Chiang Mai with its stunning mountain backdrop and with over 300 temples you should ensure you partake in a Temple Crawl. However, if culture does not take your fancy Thailand’s second largest city’s natural beauty lends itself to outdoor pursuits from rock climbing, elephant riding to Thai boxing.

City life can be hot and humid in Thailand so if you are in need of the cool sea breeze then head south of Bangkok to the quaint fishing port of Hua Hin. Thailand’s first beach resort is now famous for its golf courses nearby National Parks and finest spas hidden amongst boutique resorts. Across the Gulf of Thailand you will find the island of Koh Samui – a beach paradise. Although not everybody’s taste this large island offers a plethora of beachside luxury hotels for relaxation and offers a variety of bars and restaurants to satisfy any hungry traveller! Thailand’s west coast is fringed by the Andaman Sea offering extraordinary beachside resorts. Phuket is the largest island and caters for every traveller’s needs from markets, temples, architecture to natural reserves. In recent years Phuket has seen a surge in boutique and chic hotels. If you are seeking a more rustic feel then Krabi with its limestone mountain scenery and National Parks could be the place for you. Tempt yourself with the wonderful flavours of Thai cuisine or visit an elephant sanctuary. A short boat ride away is the island of Koh Phi Phi famously regarded as Thailand’s holiday dream. Snorkel or dive amongst the coral reefs in the gently lapping turquoise coloured waters or soak up the sun on the pure white powder sandy beaches.

With such diversity in one country Thailand is a perfect holiday destination.

Best Time To Visit

Thailand’s climate varies throughout the country and can be visited at any time of the year but the best time is the dry season from early November to late April. In particular the East Coast is best in our summer and the West coast in our winter and spring.

Average temperatures vary depending on the area but Thailand is tropical, so hot and humid most of the year. The monsoon season is between late August and early November as the heat can become oppressive.

Insider Tips

Explore the markets on your first day in Bangkok and order tailor made clothes from suits to dresses and have them delivered to your hotel as they take around two days to prepare and finish.

When traversing through the many palaces and temples are sure to cover up and respect the Thai’s Buddhist religion.

Experience a traditional Thai massage on the beach for next to nothing for mind, body and soul but be prepared for some serious pressure!
