Barefoot luxury is the epitome of North Island with its fabulous thatched villas blending in perfectly with the surrounding palm trees. With only 11 villas on the island, you are just as likely to run into a giant tortoise or nesting turtle than other guests when walking around the resort.

The sumptuous villas have been designed in local stone, wood and thatch to resemble an African game lodge but with every conceivable luxury for guests including butler service. Relax in the villa's private pool or the open-air bathroom where panoramic sights over the sea and pristine beach will help take all your worries away while you soak in the huge sunken bath surrounded by candles.

Taking individual service to new levels, the resort's restaurant does not bother with menus as each guest can discuss what dishes will whet their appetite with the chef. A perfect dish will then be prepared using local ingredients including seafood caught in the seas around the island earlier in the day.

For extra pampering try the spa and one of the personalised holistic treatments – for an extra romantic touch, couples can have a massage in the same treatment room.
